L'Antica Salumeria is in a real old and touristy area of Siracusa. I wish we had more places like this at home. Salumeria would be our deli equivalent.

A small an unpretentious place, it is manned by a very friendly staff. My brother and I happened to get the same sandwich; a coincidence. Salami and provolone was what we ordered. We were asked if we wanted sharp provolone and we both jumped on that. I'm tired of the wimpy provolone at home.

He grabbed a fresh roll and made the sandwich up right in front of us. Our server gave us each a sample of the meat from a 8" diameter huge salami roll before making the sandwiches.

Fresh and delicious. Quick and friendly service all rate a "cinque!"

It's lunch in Siracusa. Where to eat. You are in the town center and you happen to see Salumeria. I
This place is very clean and cozy. The staff is friendly and they make us a sandwich of our choice
We ordered a Panini sandwich with salami and very strong provolone cheese. I ordered a lemon & ginger drink. All excellent.

L'antica Salumeria has great selection of local meats, cheeses, and other specialties and the staff knows how to combine these ingredients into a great panino or tagliere (meat and cheese board). Their specialty however, which my boyfriend and I greatly enjoyed, were pizzoli. These are a local specialty which consists essentially of two thin pieces of bread (think pizza crust) stuffed with ingredients and then toasted. If you want to experience the best of the ingredients, I would recommend going earlier during the lunch rush since they seemed to run out of some things quickly. This was great for a quick lunch!

Our tour guide recommended this shop and she wasn't kidding!  The four of us who at there thought our sandwiches the best we'd ever eaten--anywhere.  In fact, we all ordered second sandwiches because the combination of super-spectacular bread, quality meats and perfectly paired cheese was unimaginable.  We have savored our taste memories created at this shop.  It didn't hurt that the owner is extraordinarily fun and helpful.  We not only had a great "eat" but a delightful exchange/experience.  If this establishment were closer, we'd drive hours to frequent it!
